Use our simple guide to calculate the cost of your angled sliding wardrobe doors.

Angled sliding wardrobe doors

The creation of an angled or sloping sliding wardrobe door installation should present no problems to the seasoned DIY-er. Below we offer a few simple guidelines which will help you achieve the most professional outcome.

After you've read through the guide check out our door designs & colour options for full height doors. Once you have chosen your doors simply give us a call on freephone 0800 035 1730 and one of our specialist designers can talk through the specific details of your angled door installation.

If you’re getting someone else to install the frame and doors for you then it would be helpful to forward this article to them so they can familiarise themselves with the preparation, measuring, design and installation process.

1. Angled door configurations

First, decide upon which configuration of doors will best suit your requirements. There are several different configurations that angled sliding doors can be installed to - the most popular ones are illustrated below:

a) Single end angled sliding door (L or R - right shown)
b) Double end angled sliding doors
c) Single end with two angled sliding doors (L or R - right shown)

2. Preparation for installing angled sliding doors - construct a frame

To achieve the best fit for your doors and make installation a whole lot easier it's a really really good idea to first create a frame within the aperture where the doors are to be installed, use either planed timber or MFC (Melamine Faced Chipboard).

We strongly recommend a frame to all our customers who then enjoy the benefit of a smooth installation.

The depth of the frame should be a least 100mm from front to back (to accommodate the top and bottom tracks)and the thickness should be at least 18mm.

When installing the frame ensure it is plumb and straight against the walls, floor and ceiling. Our handy article How to fit sliding wardrobe doors when your walls are not plumb and straight will help you achieve this.

3. Measuring the aperture

When taking the measurements it is helpful to produce a sketch of your front elevation and plan view of the installation. Please include any objects within and / or around the wardrobe space (e.g. chimney breast, power sockets, pipes etc.) Take a look at the example sketch diagrams below.

The method for measuring the aperture depends on whether you require a single-end angled door or a double-end angled door installation:

Measuring for a single-end angled door installation

Please note: measure the internal dimensions of the frame you have created, not the external ones.

a) Measure the full height from floor to ceiling.
b) Measure the ceiling width from the wall to the start of the angled slope.
c) Measure the full width, at floor level, from one wall to the other.
d) Measure the wall height from the floor to the start of the angled slope.
e) Measure the length of the angled slope.
f) Measure the depth of the wardrobe space, from the back wall to the front edge of the frame.
g) Measure any other features within the wardrobe space.

Measuring for a double-end angled door installation

Please note: measure the internal dimensions of the frame you have created, not the external ones.

a) Measure the full width of your aperture along the floor and mark the centre point (CP). Add the two floor measurements to either side of the centre point on your diagram.
b) Using a plumb line transfer the centre point at the floor level to the ceiling.
c) Measure the full height of the frame at the centre point.
d) Measure the width of the ceiling from each side of the centre point to the start of the angled slope.
e) Measure the height of the wall at each end from the floor to the start of the angled slope.
f) Measure the lengths of the two angled slopes.
g) Measure the depth of the wardrobe space, from the back wall to the front edge of the frame.
h) Measure any other features within the wardrobe space.
